Abstract: This research explores the impact of early childhood education (ECE) on language acquisition among preschool children in Rivers State, Nigeria. The objective is to examine how participation in structured ECE programs influences language skills development in young children. A survey research design is justified to systematically collect data on the language proficiency of preschoolers enrolled in different ECE settings. A sample size of 350 children aged 3-6 years will be purposively selected from both public and private nursery schools across Rivers State. Purposive sampling ensures representation of children from varying socio-economic backgrounds and educational settings. A case study approach focusing on selected nursery schools will provide in-depth insights into the specific educational practices influencing language acquisition. Findings reveal a positive correlation between early enrollment in ECE programs and enhanced language skills development among preschool children. Recommendations advocate for expanding access to high-quality ECE programs statewide to ensure equitable language development opportunities for all children in Rivers State.
